TORRINGTON >> Two men and three women were arrested Monday, after Torrington Police Department’s Detective Division and members of the Special Response Team executed a search and seizure warrant at the Lakeside Motel on Winsted Road.

The police department reported it had received several complaints about criminal activity taking place at the motel, including the sale of narcotics.

The department’s narcotics unit and detectives conducted a month-long investigation, including controlled purchases of narcotics from the motel, which resulted in the warrant to search a room at the motel near the main office, police said.

When the warrant was served, police found seven people in the room.

“Detectives processed the room and seized heroin, crack cocaine and marijuana,” police said in the statement. The officers also found packaging materials, a scale, crack pipe stems and drug paraphernalia including hypodermic needles, as well as cellphones and a “substantial amount” of cash. They also found health and beauty items that were stolen from a local store, police said.

Five people were arrested during the search and seizure. Wendell McKinney, 45, of the Lakeside Motel, was charged with possession of heroin, possession with intent to sell crack cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $5,000.

Chaslene Judson, 34 of Litchfield Street, Torrington, was charged with sixth-degree larceny in connection with the stolen property. Her bond was set at $500.

Carrie Grenier, 51, of Burr Mountain Road, Torrington; Timothy Spencer, 40, of Riverton Road, Winchester; and Katrina Spriggs, 23 of Colebrook River Road, Colebrook, each was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Each had a bond set at $500.

All five were released and scheduled to appear in Bantam Superior Court on an unspecified date.
