Hamden man charged with distributing fentanyl disguised as oxycodone

NEW HAVEN >> A Hamden man was released from federal custody on a $100,000 bond Thursday after being charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute and distribution of fentanyl.

Agustin Cirino, 29, was arrested on May 9 on the federal charge. Federal prosecutors say he was selling fentanyl, a synthetic opioid, disguised as oxycodone.

According to the U.S. attorney’s office, Cirino was investigated after a 30-year-old man was found dead in his Hamden home in March. Law enforcement believe that Cirino sold the victim the pills that caused him to overdose.

The charge is not evidence of guilt, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty, the U.S. attorney’s office said.
