MILFORD >> A West Haven man was arrested Wednesday afternoon in possession of 10,000 oxycodone pills, with a street value of $200,000, according to state police.

John Carlos Torres, 30, of 38 Highside Ave., West Haven, was arrested after a brief chase from the southbound rest stop of Interstate 95 to the Exit 40 off-ramp, according to a release from Trooper Kelly Grant.

At 3 p.m., state police saw a man standing outside his Ford F-150 pickup truck at the rest stop and talking on a cell phone, appearing to be agitated. Troopers noted vehicle violations on the truck and, when they approached, a second man got into the truck and the pair drove off.

After stopping the truck, troopers called for a police dog, which confirmed the presence of narcotics, Grant said. A search revealed a bag containing the oxycodone, an opioid.

Torres was taken to Troop G in Bridgeport, where he was turned over to agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration, which took over the case after conferring with the U.S. attorney’s office.

The DEA will be filing criminal charges against Torres, state police said.
